Perry was born to Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry (actor). Her first TV roles were two appearances on the show as Jackie Harris (as seen in flashback) on the ABC sitcom Roseanne, the character portrayed by her mom. She was not allowed to perform by her parents until an adulthood stage, because they were concerned about the anxiety it could create. Perry states that she did not want to perform in high school but decided to take up acting as a social activity while at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. After graduating Perry relocated to New York to search for television work landing small roles on series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent but homesickness brought her back to California and she was able to find theatre work. Perry was a part of the cast with her mother in The Other Place at Broadway at the end of 2013. In 2015, she was a part of her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry starred in nine episodes in 2016 of ABC's show The Family. Perry played a prominent role in the ABC drama about politics Scandal, starring her dad. The same year, she appeared as a younger version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory) in which she played her mother in a youthful version. The role was offered to her by auditioning for an open role despite having a connection to the character.
